My Sweet Second Grader

How in the WORLD do I have a second grader?

I just dropped my sweet little man off at school, and I actually had to tell myself not to cry as the lump formed in the back of my throat.  I still can’t handle sending him to school.  I really do love to have the little maniac home…with me…even on the days he makes me crazy!  Oh well, he’s there, and our lives once again revolve around the school schedule.

Every year I make Preston a pencil cake for the first day of school.  It’s no work of art, just something fun to get him excited.  We’ll dig into it as soon as he gets home.  I plan on doing this every year until my last baby goes to college.

Last night as I was getting ready to make the cake I looked back at Preston’s Kindergarten pics and his First Grade pics…and of course I started crying.  How has he grown up so fast?  As my mom reminded me the morning…The days pass slowly but the years pass so quickly!  So true!

Alright, posting those last two pics next to each other has brought the tears.  He has grown up so much!  I know I’ll blink and he will be in college.

Oh, my precious gift…I love you!  I am proud of you!  I am thankful that you are such a sweet, smart, wild little man.

Lord, thank you for Preston!  Thank you for how different we are.  Thank you for his smart little brain and his amazing athletic ability.  Thank you for giving me a strong boy first – to keep me in line.  Thank you for his smile and his intense little personality.  Thank you for his competitiveness, and I pray that you will help me channel it in a positive direction.  Thank you for his desire to learn and to do well.  Thank you for his desire to make good decisions and I pray that he will love you and walk with you all the days of his life.  Please, Lord, help Preston to use your Godly wisdom and discernment in all decisions and choices he makes.  Please bless him with sweet friends that will be good examples and I pray that he will bless others with his example.  Please give his teacher patience, strength, and wisdom this year as she guides and teaches Preston and his classmates.  Thank you, Lord, for this precious blessing and gift!  Thank you for PRESTON!
