Family Vacation at La Torretta

Hello friends! I’m so sorry it’s been a week since my last post! We’ve been out of town, and I’ve been tired, and I’ve been a little nauseous, and I’ve been wrestling maniacs. There’s my list of excuses. :) I’m so thankful you haven’t given up on me.
.
A few weeks ago I asked my wonderful facebook friends where Brad and I could take our 7, 4, and 2 year old maniacs for family vacation. I received several wonderful suggestions of places I had never heard of, and we choose one of them for our destination. We went to La Torretta in Conroe, Texas. It was WONDERFUL and PERFECT for our family!  I highly recommend it for families of young children.

The resort was clean.  The room was clean.  The hotel employees were friendly and helpful.  The basic room is a 2-room suite with a hide-a-bed, so it was great for our family of 5.  There was PLENTY to do at the resort, so we never left except to eat dinner, which made this vacation very affordable.  Our children loved the water park, and there was something for everyone.  La Torretta is probably better for younger kids, such as ours, but it kept them busy and happy.

Water Park Attractions:

  • Baby area (about 4 inches deep)
  • Children’s area (less than a foot deep) with a huge splash area with water sprayers and slides.  That’s where we spent most of our time.
  • Big kids area (5 feet deep) with 2 great water slides that Preston, Brad, and I enjoyed.
  • Lazy River (3 feet deep) and we spent a lot of time there, too.
  • Pools
  • Hot Tubs

Other Outdoor Activities:

  • Putt-Putt
  • Fishing
  • Tennis
  • Golf
  • Chess/Checkers
  • “Beach” Volleyball on the lake

(La Torretta has no idea who I am, and they did not ask me to write this report.  It’s just that when I, as a mom…as The Real Housewife, find a great family place I feel it is my duty to share it with all of you! :) You’re welcome.)

Now for the pics…lots and lots of pics…

We drove to Conroe Thursday afternoon, and we were fortunate enough to meet some dear friends for lunch on the way.  We always love hanging out with the James family!  (We missed you, David)

Sweet Jemma loves Pinky.  They are just 2 (or is it 3?) months apart.

I wish I had a pic of my beautiful friend Liana, but I’m sure there will be another! :)  (Thank y’all so much for meeting us!)

Preston, Price, Jemma, AnnaLeigh, Lilly Katherine

We woke up Friday morning in Conroe and got our vacation started out right.  We headed to Shipley’s in our pjs in order to maintain our weekly tradition/routine!

Water Park:

Here’s the children’s area…

They loved the big bucket that dumped tons of water on everything!

This was Preston’s favorite part…The big slides!  (Sorry, Mister.  I didn’t realize you were in my photo. )

Look at these TWINS heading up to slide.  They’re both so stinkin’ cute!  (Yes, I put sun screen on that child!  He was wearing SPF 55!  He just tans well.)

Brad enjoyed the slides just a little. :)  He was teaching all the kids that if you lay down you go much faster.  Preston did not enjoy going “much faster.”  Shocking!

And while the boys were sliding…

The Lazy River…

P trying to teach Brad how to play Chess.

We found a local place called Sam’s Boat and enjoyed great seafood outside on the lake, listening to live music.  It was so much fun!

This little DIVA wore her “suh-gasses” the whole vacation.

My cute boys!

What you can’t see in this picture is the HUGE plate of fried oysters in front of me.  Man, I could use some of those right now!

There’s a huge dock/peer outside of Sam’s Boat and the kids loved running around on it.  The girls had a blast playing together.

Doesn’t it look like AnnaLeigh’s having fun?!?!

We saw some locals catching some good sized fish…which pumped Preston up for fishing!

This is the one and only family picture we have from the vacation and it is pitiful!  AnnaLeigh was so tired (it was almost 10) and the pic is blurry and dark.  Oh well, I’ll remember to take family pics next time.

The next day we swam in the morning, napped in the afternoon, and then fished in the evening.  I think we caught 10 fish, using our leftover pizza crust as bait.  Pretty fancy!

My girl caught a fish, picked it up by herself, and threw it back in the water!  Love her!

My job was to make sure this maniac didn’t fall in the lake.

We found some baby ducks to feed.  They like pizza crust, too.

There’s nothing sweeter than a daddy and his girls!

Then I got to fish!  I grew up fishing and I love it!  P was helping LK catch “the big one!”

Pinky and I caught one!

After fishing, we were putting the kids in bed and I heard something strange outside.  I realized they were shooting fireworks at the hotel.  I have no idea what it was for, but we enjoyed the show from our balcony.

Our last day we played Putt-Putt and swam.  My big bug is good at Putt-Putt.

My girls…well, they have a few years to figure it out.  AnnaLeigh decided that throwing it in the hole was much more efficient.

LK (with her rockin’ stance) tried to hit the ball with the club…

She had a hard time making contact…

She decided KICKING it was a more effective way to move the ball. Whatever it takes, baby girl!

We didn’t have score cards, but P and I both agree that I won.  Brad thinks he might have won.  He didn’t.  It was quite difficult to hit the ball with these two maniacs “helping” and “teaching” me.  We were a quite a site!

After Putt-Putt we cooled off in the conference center, and re-energized with a little help from PEZ candy.

Then the girls found a “dance floor” and without any music, they danced and giggled…which turned to cackling and screaming, and we made a quick exit to the pool!

We’re so thankful to have had a few days to get away together as a family.  It was much needed for all!

The sign of a good vacation…

Thank you, wonderful hubby for working so hard!  Thank you for taking time off to have fun with us!  We love you!  Oh, and Happy Father’s Day!  Sorry I didn’t write you a Father’s Day post!  ILYMED!
