Freezer Jam"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I have been wanting to make homemade jelly (jam) since the kids and I made delicious homemade (home-grown) grape jelly with my Aunt Barbara and Uncle Carroll last year.\u00a0 I promised the kids we would make jelly this summer and the summer slipped away from us.\u00a0 The week before school started, I decided we needed to make jelly for the kids&#8217; lunches.\u00a0 Lilly Katherine and I made it the same day we made <a href=\"http:\/\/therealhousewife.com\/blog\/homemade-fruit-roll-ups\/\">Fruit Roll-Ups (Fruit Leather)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I let her choose the kind of jelly she wanted to make, and she chose Plum Jelly!\u00a0 Sounded good to me.\u00a0 It was EXTREMELY EASY and a quick, fun project to make with kids.\u00a0 My only dilemma is that I was hoping to make a lower sugar jelly, and I found that this is NOT a lower sugar jelly.\u00a0 If you have a good low sugar (possibly using fruit juice instead of sugar) recipe, please let me know.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Homemade Plum (Freezer) Jam Recipe<\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Ok, so you will need 3 basic ingredients.\u00a0 (Tough, huh?)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Fruit, Sugar, Instant Pectin for Freezer Jam.\u00a0 Oh, and you will need 2 (8 oz) straight sided Ball jars.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/therealhousewife.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/Homemade-Plum-Freezer-Jam-5.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3042\" and place in a sauce pan with 1\/2 cup of water.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a and then mash with a potato masher or fork.\u00a0 You don&#8217;t have to mash if your fruit is fine enough, but I wanted my plums a little smaller.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a mixture and stir for 3 minutes&#8230;or have 2 <span style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\">little slaves<\/span> precious maniacs stir it for you.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a stirring, pour or ladle mixture into 2 (8 oz) straight edge sterilized glass jars.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em>**Notice, I didn&#8217;t read the directions before I made the jam, and I bought the wrong kind of jar.\u00a0 The one I used is too large, and not the right shape.\u00a0 The jam is still delicious, but I recommend the small, straight sided jars.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/therealhousewife.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/Homemade-Plum-Freezer-Jam-35.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" rest for 30 minutes.\u00a0 Eat immediately, refrigerate for 3 weeks, or freeze for up to 1 year.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">It&#8217;s that easy!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">When you are ready to use your jam, remove a jar from the freezer, let it thaw in your fridge, and use it within 3-4 weeks.\u00a0 (That is another reason for using smaller jars&#8230;so your jam doesn&#8217;t spoil.)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/therealhousewife.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/Mississippi-with-the-lees-003.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" wrote the instructions on a piece of paper so she would have her own recipe.\u00a0 She sounded the words out and did this almost by herself.\u00a0 Gotta love the little maniac&#8230;plus her left;\">Ingredients:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li>1 2\/3 cups chopped Plums (5-6 plums)<\/li>\n<li>2\/3 cup Sugar<\/li>\n<li>1 small package (or 2 Tbsp) of Ball Real Fruit Instant Pectin<\/li>\n<li>2 (8 oz) sterilized Jelly Jars<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Wash plums and dice small.\u00a0 Combine with 1\/2 cup water in a sauce pan and let it simmer for 5 minutes.\u00a0 Mash with a potato masher or fork if desired.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Stir sugar and Instant Pectin together.\u00a0 Pour fruit mixture on top of sugar mixture.\u00a0 Stir constantly for 3 minutes.\u00a0 Ladle jam into jars, allowing 1\/2 inch of space between jam and top of jar.\u00a0 Let stand 30 minutes.\u00a0 Eat or freeze.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">To eat at a later date, thaw jam in the refrigerator and use within 3-4 weeks.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I can&#8217;t take credit for this recipe.\u00a0 I didn&#8217;t write it, I merely made
